“In reality, it could be said that in the Caribbean, the ‘foreign interacts with the ‘traditional’ like a ray of light with a prism; that is, they produce phenomena of reflection, refraction, and decomposition.”

“Little Islands” embodies archipelagic thinking by connecting artists and stories across the Caribbean diaspora. Just as islands are separate yet linked by the surrounding seas, we believe in highlighting the unique yet interconnected voices of Caribbean artists both from the islands and the diaspora. This platform, aims to foster dialogue and collaboration, reflecting the fluid exchange of culture, memory, and identity that defines archipelagic spaces. Converting this polyrhythmic artistry with completely different avenues upon entry for the viewer to engage and syncretize lived experience, myths, history, and futures.
This platform will initially serve as an online exhibition, and public repository for artworks, performances, film, poetry, and more within the Caribbean context. We hope this space becomes a resource for artists to take in, and for our community members to feel a part of the conversation. The main question we hope to answer in this project is this: When we think of ourselves as little islands, how do we begin to recognize the invisible currents that connect us? What happens when the borders that separate us disappear?
As part of this platform, our goal is to create satellite programming in which the South Florida community and beyond can participate. Through intentional programming such as artist talks, workshops, and performances facilitated by the group of artists and artists in the community. We aim to leave an impact on people of all ages, and backgrounds within Florida and worldwide.
